Happy International Volunteer Day!

On 5 December every year we get to celebrate the fantastic work, effort and time that our volunteers give us and our clients, year after year. We are so honoured to have this support and commitment from so many wonderful individuals and groups across our vast range of programs.

“I feel it is important to give back to the community, not just monetarily, but with time which allows you to see the joy your efforts bring. Watching someone pull in a fish for the first time is great fun for the fishermen and the teacher and is really fulfilling,” says Reuben Edmonds, a Science and Maths teacher from Wesley College.

At UnitingCare West we recognise the value of volunteering and aim to enhance service delivery and connection to communities through the assistance of volunteers. During 2014, UCW had over 300 volunteers, all of whom contributed in some way to helping those most in need in our community.

“Since becoming a member of the Take Time (Community Options) family in September 2006 I have seen understanding, care and compassion towards all who take part. Now in my role as a volunteer I am able to continue to maintain friendships with clients and staff and help out and assist where required,” says Brenda Ogden.

To thank our volunteers, each year they receive a copy of the UnitingCare West Volunteer Calendar as a thank you for all their hard work, along with a fantastic Volunteer Thank You event. This event will take place on Saturday 7 February 2015 and will host a range of fun activities and entertainment.

“As a member of the community I have an obligation to contribute to its overall welfare, furthermore my Christian faith emphasises this. Volunteering is one way this need can be satisfied,” says Doug Lambert a member of the UnitingCare West Board.

If you would like to volunteer with UnitingCare West and give back to your community, make new friends or just genuinely enjoy the experience of working with those most in need, please see here.

Again, thank you to everyone who has contributed their time to UnitingCare West throughout 2014 and in previous years.
