Homeless Persons Week

UnitingCare West will be hosting various events next week, in celebration of Homeless Persons Week 2012.

Homeless Persons Week is an annual themed week used by Homelessness Australia to spread awareness of people experiencing homelessness and surrounding issues.

Throughout the week, UnitingCare West will be holding events such as an art competition, sausage sizzle, an information stall in the CBD and participating in the Homeless Persons Week Walk.

Monday’s art competition at Perth City Farm will feature works from UnitingCare West clients, along with entries from other organisations. The same day, a sausage will be held at Tranby Day Centre for people experiencing homelessness and supporters of the week.

Saturday will hold the charity walk. Starting from Wesley Church, it will cover a large area of the CBD and will be used to spread awareness of homelessness in the city.

These will be held at various locations, including UnitingCare West’s Tranby Day Centre, which provides daily support to people experiencing homelessness with food, clothing, showers, GP appointments and other services. Tranby is also looking for warm clothing, sleeping bags and toiletries to get them through the cold winter months.
