International Women’s Day celebrations

Sunday 8 March was International Women’s Day and UnitingCare West (UCW) was involved across a whole range of wonderful events within the community to promote and encourage women to be the best they can be.

Women’s Council Sparkling High Tea

A number of UCW staff attended the Women’s Council Sparkling High Tea at the Duxton Hotel.

This annual event raises money for Funds for Freedom (FFF). These funds help women purchase essential whitegoods when they are setting up new homes for themselves and their children after fleeing their homes because of domestic and family violence.

For more information about FFF, see here.

The MC of the afternoon was Diana Warnock who is the patron of the Women's Council. Guest speakers included Her Excellency Kerry Sanderson and the founder and advocate for FFF, Angela Russo.

Fremantle Celebrations

UCW’s Wyn Carr House clients and staff members attended an IWD event at Fremantle Health Centre. Everyone enjoyed some belly dancing and a great lunch that featured food from all different cultures.

The women of Wyn Carr would like to share the below quote with you:

“A beautiful women draws strength from troubles, smiles during distress, and grows stronger with prayers and hope, you are one of them.”

WACOSS Inspiring Women to Lead interview series

Inspiring Women to Lead is a series of 15 interviews with a diverse range of female leaders (and one man!) from Western Australia.

The aim of this Inspiring Women to Lead project is to build on the positive foundation of women’s representation and leadership that can already be found in the not for profit sector, and to INFORM and INSPIRE women to take up leadership and board positions both in greater numbers, and in larger organisations.

All the Inspiring Women to Lead interviews are available on the WACOSS website.

There are 15 interviews to choose from, including one with UnitingCare West’s own CEO Sue Ash AO.  You can listen to the interviews online or download as a podcast (refer to the above link for “how to podcast” instructions).
