Paralympian visits Community Options

On Friday 6 March, Paralympian Brad Scott visited Community Options South in Willeton to host their Indoor Sports Carnival. Community Options South offers adults living with a disability the opportunity to choose and participate in a broad range of inclusive, community based activities.

Brad initiated proceedings with a great talk to participants, explaining how the best thing about sport is not winning, but getting the opportunity to have fun and get to know one another.

Brad won Silver (1500m) and Bronze (800m) at the London Paralympics and Silver (800m) at the Beijing Paralympics.  “To me, disability is not an excuse, it’s an opportunity” said Brad who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy – right hemiplegia as a child and told by doctors he wouldn’t be able to play sport passed the age of 14.

Participants all competed for glory for their individual teams; Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. Games included Egg & Spoon Race, Walk the Plank, Up & Over and a range of other wonderfully fun competitions.

There was a great amount of laughter and cheering from participants and lots of competitive encouragement from the staff members, cheering on the members of their individual houses.

At the end of the day Brad presented three winners with a trophy for putting in 100% throughout the day. Awards were presented to Dianne, Jordan and Michael. Congratulations to all participants for jumping on board with the opportunity to have fun and experience something new.
