UCW launches Christmas Appeal at Target

On Thursday 6 November UnitingCare West launched its 2014 Christmas Appeal at Target Carousel. The event began with a choir performance by middle school students from Tranby College. Following this, Ian Moore, Executive Manager of Business Development & Strategy, addressed those present and discussed the importance of the UnitingCare West Christmas Appeal. Ian expressed how much of a difference can be made to a child’s Christmas by simply going to the effort to donate a gift or monetary amount.

The choir kicked off again with a further four Christmas songs while Santa walked amongst the crowd and handed out lollies, giving UCW staff an opportunity to talk to the public about how they can contribute to UCW’s Christmas Appeal.

Tranby College students completed a ‘trolley dash’ where they were divided into four groups, provided with a dollar value and age category, before walking throughout Target selecting toys for children most in need. The students were escorted by Target staff, all wearing reindeer hats, and they had a great time considering what children less fortunate than they would like to receive at Christmas.

By the end of the launch there were four trolleys spilling over with gifts that have now been delivered to the Christmas warehouse at UCW, ready to be sorted, selected and wrapped for delivery in December.

If you would like to get involved, visit your local Target store and do a ‘trolley dash’ of your own, host a ‘giving box’ in your office for food, toy and clothing contributions or simply donate a gift and join in with the true meaning of Christmas.

For the past 23 years, UnitingCare West has worked with Target to bring families love and hope at Christmas. This partnership, previously known as ‘Operation Santa’, is now called ‘The Target and UnitingCare Giving Box’. Toys, clothing and gift cards purchased and donated in Target stores are collected by volunteers from UnitingCare West and Uniting Church congregations around WA and are distributed to those most in need in our community.
