2017 White Ribbon Day - All women are beautiful

This Saturday 25 November is White Ribbon Day, calling on all Australians to say NO to domestic and family violence.

White Ribbon Day is an annual awareness initiative held on one day of the year. However, it is one small part of the much larger White Ribbon social change movement that operates 365 days a year.

The day focuses the attention of the community on the issue of the prevention of men’s violence against women and gender equality by asking the community to become aware, engaged and help stop violence towards women.

You can find more details about how to get involved as an individual, community, school or business here. You can also purchase a White Ribbon from our Fremantle Service Centre at 10-12 Market Street, or our Inner City Service Centre, Unit 6 / 5 Aberdeen Street, East Perth.

The effects on women and children are profound. Along with the possibility of serious injury or death, women often experience significant mental health issues and/or alcohol and other drug problems. It can also have a major impact on their role as a parent and day-to-day functioning.

UnitingCare West’s Women’s Services provides supported crisis accommodation to women seeking refuge from domestic or family violence. The service is open to women aged 18 or older who are unaccompanied by children. Our team is also able to connect women with other service providers, including those who can help with physical and mental health issues.

We aim to ensure the safety of women experiencing family or domestic violence and make sure that those who use violence and abuse within their relationship are held accountable for this choice.

If you, or someone you know needs help with a domestic or family violence issue, in the first instance call The Domestic Violence Helpline on 1800 007 339 (Free call) or Crisis Care on 1800 199 008 (Free call).
