UnitingCare West is acutely aware of the inherent difficulties faced by offenders when they are released and attempting to reintegrate back into the community.
These difficulties can be exacerbated if offenders have been imprisoned for a considerable length of time, are a parent with a history of substance abuse, or have a disability. UnitingCare West provides transitional accommodation and specialised support services for individuals in this situation, with the aim of increasing the likelihood of positive reintegration back into the community.
Outreach Services offer specialist pre-release support, re-entry and re-integration services to male prisoners, predominantly those serving life or indeterminate sentences, or sentences for sex offences.
This service offers transitional housing and support to people with intellectual disabilities who are re-entering the community from prison.
The ASSP service provides supported accommodation for up to nine months for women with substance use problems who are exiting prison and returning to the community to care for at least one child under five years.
