Family Group Homes
The Family Group Homes program provide therapeutic care for children and young people which seeks to help them recover from the trauma caused to them by experiences of abuse and neglect. Our carers are the key to providing a safe, nurturing and therapeutic home environment for up to four children and young people at any one time.
The Therapeutic Family Group Home is staffed by a full time, live-in therapeutic carer and supported by a range of support staff and professionals. The carer works as part of a team with professionals and the child’s family to ensure that the child’s needs are well understood and responded to both at home, at school and in all other aspects of the child’s life.
UnitingCare West works in partnership with the Australian Childhood Foundation in delivering the Therapeutic Family Group Home Program. The Foundation provides expert training and specialist support to carers and support staff to help them know how to better respond to the complex needs of children who have had to be removed from their own family as a result of abuse and/or neglect.
