Child and Family Therapeutic Service (CAFTS)

This is a child sexual abuse service that provides counselling from a centre in Inglewood, where there are four dedicated counselling rooms including a therapeutic play room.

CAFTS works in partnership with the Australian Childhood Foundation to offer therapeutic interventions to children and families who have been impacted by sexual abuse.

The service aims to reduce the harmful effects of child sexual abuse by offering a number of programs.  These focus on repairing the impact of trauma, reintegrating the sense of self, strengthening attachment relationships, improving family functioning and educating community systems.

Children’s programme

The children’s program works therapeutically with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, in addition to their care givers and siblings, in order to reduce the harmful effects of the abuse and repair the impact of trauma.

Adolescent’s programme

The adolescent’s programme works therapeutically with children and young people who are engaging in, or are at risk of engaging in concerning, problematic or abusive sexual behaviours. The therapy aims to reduce the impact of the trauma they have experienced and address the multiple factors that influence the emergence of inappropriate sexualised behaviours.

Families programme

This programme works with families whose children are being impacted by their parents experience of sexual abuse, or are at risk of being sexually abused. The therapy focuses on increasing parental capacity to ensure the safety of children and provide emotionally nurturing, protective care.
