The NDIS in WA
In December 2017, it was announced that the Commonwealth Government’s National Disability Insurance Agency will operate the NDIS in Western Australia for the future. This brings to a close the WA NDIS trial conducted by the former Disability Services Commission.
West Australians living in different local government areas will be able to access the NDIS at different times. The scheme will be fully rolled out across WA by 2020.
All current participants in the WA NDIS will transfer to the nationally delivered scheme from April 2018 until 31 December 2018.
Can I get support from the NDIS?
You are eligible to access the scheme if you have a permanent impairment that makes it difficult to take part in everyday life activities. You will also need to meet a range of requirements, including:
- Availability of the scheme in your area
- Age (you must be 65 years or younger on application)
- Residency status
- The nature of your disability
- Early intervention requirements
If you are already a client of a disability service, you will be contacted about transitioning into the scheme. In the meantime, existing services and supports will continue until you start your NDIS plan.
Advocacy – protecting your rights
UnitingCare West is by your side, to advocate on your behalf and make sure your rights are respected at every stage of your personal NDIS journey.
We’ll put you at the centre of every discussion, provide advice on what to say at meetings and step in to speak on your behalf when required.
Our role is to represent your rights and ensure your voice is clearly heard, understood and respected.
How do I find out more?
